John J. Hogg papers, 1862-1865.

This collection consists of typed copies of a three page diary, 1862, and letters to John Hogg's wife, Susan, as well as a few to his father, from various stations in Georgia and Tennessee. The letters tell of camp life, high price and scarcity of food and clothing, battle experiences, etc. Gives advice to his wife on planting, raising the children, etc.

John J. Hogg was born in Troup County, Georgia. His wife was Susan Ann McCalley. He served throughout the Civil War as a private in the Army of Tennessee.
